This is one of those trainwrecks that make it hard to look away.

Dance Your Ass Off is a new reality show on the Oxygen network.

It’s basically The Biggest Loser – meets – Dancing With the Stars.  Here’s a description from the shows website:

“Twelve finalists, nearly 3,000 lbs, one goal — to go from an eating machine to a dancing machine in Oxygen’s new dance/weight loss competition series Dance Your Ass Off”

“Bringing dance and diet together, Dance Your Ass Off features talented, full-figured contestants who will have to lose to win. Each contestant is paired with a professional dance partner who will train him or her for weekly stage performances — ranging from Hip Hop, to Ballroom and even Pole Dancing! Then they shake and rattle their rolls in front of a live studio audience and a panel of expert judges. The judges score the routines, and then the contestants weigh in to reveal their weekly weight loss. The dance score and the weight loss are combined for an overall score, which determines who is sent home each week.”

Each contestant has the aid of doctors and nutritionists and physical trainers in addition to their dance coach/partner that teaches them a routine each week.

Damn.  I think everyone in that audience is no longer a virgin after those splits followed by air sex.

This show strikes me as a bit off…  almost as if it is trying to be a parody of something else that’s not as scary.  Seriously, I mean I’m honestly fine with being proud of your body, but the outfits this show is squeezing them into make me think of vinyl sausage casing.  I’m not sure they would look good on anyone, no matter what size they were.  I’m not even saying that I think they should cover up, but those outfits!  Holy Jeebus!  Since when did the “homeless 80’s hooker” Halloween costume become sexy?

The facial expressions are hilarious though.  Not only from the contestants, but also from this judge, that I think shares my thoughts on a few things:

As much crap as I give fat people (never to their faces), I gotta say, when I see them working out in the gym, or going for a walk, or making smart food choices that show that they are trying to make a change, I have huge amounts of respect for them.  HUGE!

So I dig the TV show “The Biggest Loser” that just had its season finale last night.  These people are losing insane amounts of fat.  It literally just melts away!  Every season, for the first week they are on the show, they often lose seemingly unhealthy amounts of fat in 7 days.  Often 15, 20, even as much as 30 pounds in ONE WEEK!!  This shows you just how sedentary their lives were, and how poor their diets, that when they put forth some REAL effort they can get some amazing results.  I’m sure the workouts are tough on the show, and they should be.  But for the weight to fall off that fast, they also must have worked especially hard at keeping that weight on before getting on the show.

I am extremely curious what the “Fat Acceptance” people think about this show.  As far as I can tell, the agenda of “FA” people is to make sure that fat people of all sizes accept their size, and stop trying to become a “thin” person.  Also, of course, that everyone else should accept them as what they are, and not judge them.  So, if a very fat person decides that they really don’t want to be fat anymore, and they begin to make changes in their lives that allow them to lose weight, do the “FA” people think that they are selling out??  Do they believe that they are giving into societal pressures??

If the FA people do watch the show, and they think the contestants are selling out, then WTF!!!!?????  Every person on the show says constantly how they don’t want to be fat anymore.  They hate it.  They are tired of feeling sluggish.  They want to feel healthier.  If they have kids, they want to be able to have the energy to play with them.  They want to live to see their grandchildren.  If they are young, they say that they are tired of wasting the best years of their life being fat and not getting out there and enjoying the things that they could if their bodies were more willing.

When I read fat bloggers that chronicle their weight loss jouney, or anyone who has had the realization that they are NOT their fat body, and has made the real decision to make a change, I just think YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!  And I realize that the FA bandwagon has yet to do that.  They’ve decided to just keep doing what they’re doing.  They just try to lower the standards.

If you’re fat, and you don’t draw inspiration from that show, then there’s something wrong with you.  If your response is that your reason for being fat is different from theirs, that it’s genetic, you’re retarded.  Do you think the producers of that show tested everyones DNA to make sure that they were able to lose weight before letting them on the show?  I highly doubt it.

They are REAL people, with REAL weight problems, that led fat lives, and when they put forth some REAL effort, got REAL results.  They are elated over their new bodies.  You can’t deny that.  If you gave them the choice of being fat again, but being perfectly happy and accepting of themselves, OR to be fit and healthy, what do you think they would choose?

That’s what I thought.
