Just kidding. He’s not really fat.
If you don’t know who “Joe the Plumber” is, Barack Obama met him in a crowd when Joe introduced himself as a potential small business owner.
Joe asked Obama why he would tax him more if his small plumbing business began earning over $250,000 a year.
Obama’s response is basically to point out that under his plan, all but a small minority of small business owners would be getting a tax cut. According to Obama, 95% of small businesses make under $250,000 a year. Only those 5% that make above that will get a 3% increase.
Obama also points out, that under his plan, small businesses will get up to a 50% tax credit on premiums paid if they offer health benefits to all of their employees, and he will eliminate their capital gains tax.
So, depending on some factors, Joe’s business could easily end up paying less taxes overall than it would under the current plan.
