Does this happen to you?
Somehow traveling always makes me feel BLEH! …And grabbing junk food when we stop for gas seems to make me feel 10 times worse, but that urge to nibble on things is tough to fight.
Still, I can’t imagine getting things like these:

This is like the most condensed collection of the worst chip-type-snacks I can imagine. They fall into the category of something that I would want to try just because I can’t even imagine what they would taste like, and I would probably be amazed at the flavor that the factories were able to concoct from no ingredients that came from any real discernable food.
Who knew Burger King made those “chips”? Do you think the King knows?

I like to stick to nuts and fruit when driving or flying. You’d think I was part monkey since I always seem to have a banana everywhere I go. They’re like the perfect snack! I guess they’re a little fragile though.
I need to get myself one of these:
What do you like to snack on when traveling?

I had no idea such produts even existed!!!Hmm… now that I’m thinking about it… I’m surprised that fastfood chains didn’t start producing this crap years ago!!(or did they and I’ve just never seen it???!!) I am especially intrigued by the mozzarella sticks snack.
In general it seems that you definitely have to take your own snack (banana or other fruit) if you want something healthy to snack on. Rarely do gas stations have anything worth eating! Another healthy snack to bring from home is popcorn… it gives you the same sensation of munching/snacking on something…but is healthy (as long as you dont get the tripple butter kind).
Those banana carriers look weird… but I bet they work real well. I hate it when I put a perfect looking banana in my bag and by the time I get to work… its brown and dented. Let me know how well they work…
So.. my curiosity got the best of me and I just looked up how long these snack have been on the market: Both the Burger king and TGIF have been available since September 2007. I guess I live underneath a rock :p
Well, I’m an ape but I like monkey-food too, it’s much better than the sort of convenience food that you’re faced with on most trips. That’s mostly salty, greasy, processed starch in one form or another.
I suppose it’s called convenience food for a reason though, and if you want to have healthy snacks for a long trip it must mean the small inconvenience of planning ahead. The options at most fuel stops, airports stations etc usually aren’t great.
Road Snacks:
If I’m prepared – organic beef jerkey, nuts, apples, celery, etc…
Not prepared: no comment
dude, that banana holder kinda looks like…haha…nevermind…*mind out of gutter* That could come in handy, but will it fit all bananas? Since a banana doesn’t come in a standard size, would it work for every time I want to take along nature’s best snack?
I hate gas station food. I always feel like crap if I don’t have proper road snacks. I take dried fruit and things like apples and bananas, and nuts and beef jerky.
I nearly mentioned the gutter minded visual too, but didn’t.
I wonder the same, though. They can’t fit all bananas!
Off topic, but I’m curious about mass-marketing. A minute or two on the google machine revealed that the burgerking and TGI snacks are both made by the same group, who have license to use the brands. The TGI branded stuff alone is a $100 million business.
Brand identity, if you don’t have any just buy it from someone who has plenty. Add on some pseudo-healthy trans fat labels and you have another winner from the marketing department.
Namastelove,
Maybe one of these “banana bunkers” would be better suited to fit bananas of all sizes and shapes.

Cool find, Lucy! They’re even ribbed, for… never mind.
LOL!!!! I’m really 12 on the inside and this kind of humor makes me squee.
Bananas are awesome. You should read the book ‘Banana’ about the history and the fate of bananas if you want to get alarmed! They won’t be around for too much longer!
All of those chips are salty and disgusting. The reason why you can’t eat just one is because of all the salt on the chip.
It’s very frustrating that people would consider that ‘food’ in the sense that it could provide some nutritional value. It has nothing but fat, bad fat, that humans shouldn’t digest in it.
Yes, Panama disease will probably kill off the banana as we know it, which makes me sad. Enjoy those puppies while we still have em! We’ll still have the much more expensive, but very tasty, plantain.
Is that true? I mean I’ve read that various plant diseases have threatened bananas in the past, but I thought that it was always a particular strain of banana.
So, a few decades ago, we mostly ate a different kind of banana than we do today, but it suffered the fate of a disease.
I believe it is due to a lack of genetic diversity, leaving worldwide crops vulnerable to a disease spreading very quickly. More diversity would cause a disease to have to adapt in order to spread.
I tend to bring fruit and nuts, usually lightly salted pistachios. Fruit alone can make me even hungrier, but I do love it. My ex-bf picks up weird stuff like this at Grocery Outlet from time to time, I think I tried one of those fries with kitchen frito-like things. Nasty.
On journeys? I eat doughnuts and drink coffee. What’s all this shit about fruit and nuts?!
