Ok. So nobody is born weighing 400 pounds. You have to work up to that. You have to work HARD. In order to become a mass of blubber huge enough to generate your own gravitational pull, you have to make stuffing your face your second full-time job.
The thing is, as with many things in life, there are certain stages in which a situation can worsen enough for the person involved, for them to need to ask themselves if they should do something about it.
This could pertain to anything. My friend came up with a good analogy. Think about when your apartment starts to get messy. You leave clothes on the floor, dishes everywhere, just basically random shit all over the place. Maybe you’ve been busy lately, or you’re just a plain slob. Either way, most of you at some point would say enough is enough and pick up a few things and put them where they belong. Maybe you clean everything up, or do just enough to feel like you can live in your space again. That doesn’t really matter.
The question is: What is your breaking point? How bad will you let something get before you do something about it? How many signs that things are getting worse will you ignore?
In the case of our extremely corpulent friends, they have to throw this idea out the window. All those hurdles that they surpass on their way to becoming the huge mass of a human that they are, mean nothing to them. What are some of these hurdles you ask?
They include: (I tried to put them in order of increasing fatness)
-
Not being able to walk up one flight of stairs without getting winded
-
Not being able to get out of bed without getting winded
-
No longer fitting in your XXL clothes
-
Not being able to tie your shoes
-
Not being able to see your feet
-
Not being able to see your penis
-
Having a hard time wiping your ass
-
Saying “Fuck it” when you drop something on the ground
-
Exceeding the weight limit on your scale
- Needing a walker to “walk”
-
Getting a handicap tag for your car
-
Having to purchase two plane tickets (one for each cheek)
- Switching over to a
MooMooMuMu-only wardrobe -
Needing help to put your clothes on
-
Needing help to bathe yourself
- Needing a motorized wheelchair (because a manual one would be exercise)
-
Not being able to leave your house
-
Not being able to get out of a chair/bed
-
Having to rely on other people to bring you food
-
Losing any recognizable shape of a human body

It is now socially acceptable to bash smoking and/or smokers whenever and however you feel. When someone lights up, some dumbass almost inevitably tells them what harm they are doing to their body and how it will kill them, etc etc. … but noone does anything when they see fat people chowing down a wendy’s super value meal with a 64 ounce coke.
The ironic part is that the smoker is only inflicting harm on themselves (assuming smoking outside – no 2nd hand smoke), the fat people harm all of us. THEY drive health care costs through the roof… fighting health problems caused by global obesity is expected to cost more than fighting global warming…
… global warming being caused by 1. production of livestock and 2. transportation (yes in that order.. look it up)
both of which fat people love – driving and eating.
so before you (fat people) run around blaming everyone but yourself for your lack of discipline or claim to be in the .2% of the population that has an actual disorder that causes obesity, consider you are more damaging to the planet than exxon mobil ever dreamed …
Actually, a recent study found out that it’s not the fatties ‘driving healthcare costs through the roof’, it’s the skinnies. It’s because skinny people generally live longer than fat people… who’d have thought?
I think each of these “milestones” is acknowledged by people as a painful humiliation.
I was not born fat; I got fat at 5, obese at 10, and morbidly obese in my 20’s. My breaking point came at 320-something…. I was lucky. My PCP diagnosed Candida infection and I was able to get the yeast infection under control and lose 200 pounds. I wrote Beauty and the Yeast Beast: from Fat to Fairy Tale to try to help others who might unknowingly suffer obesity from Candida. My site has lots of free how-to info, and my 1999 before pic. I’ve kept the weight offf (without dieting!) for over 7 years. All the other pictures on my site are 2008 pics. Obesity is a brutality. Being thought of as slovenly and having no willpower after trying diet after diet is humiliating. If you know anyone who wants and needs to lose a lot of weight, please go to beautyandtheyeastbeast.com
You’re reversing cause and effect. Candida is not going to cause obesity, obesity increases the likelyhood of a variety of other problems, including candida. While candida infection may be reduced in frequency or severity with a loss of weight, it is the weight loss that reduced the candida problem, NOT the other way around.
Obesity is caused by overeating. If you actually stuck to a diet instead of “trying” one, you would have lost the weight.
I’ve been working with overweight people for over 15 years now, and when people tell me they “tried” this program or that diet, what they usually mean is they started, but either did not follow it strictly or consistently or quit as soon as it became difficult. I have yet to see a single example of someone who can not lose weight if they actually cut their calorie intake, exercise, and increase their activity.
Great Blog. My breaking point is a size 12. I refuse to go into plus sized clothing. If I hit a size 12 (and I have after having a baby) it’s to the gym I go and at the salad bar I graze. It’s absolutely a battle. But it’s worth fighting. One thing I was just harping about today is that it’s one thing to make yourself overweight as an adult, but it is pure evil to allow your children, who’s diet you control, to be overweight. What a terrible start to a life. Other kids snack on cheetos, my kid snacks on green peppers and cucumbers. For real. They’re crunchy and delicious. She loves them. Most moms I run into say “my kid would never eat that”. Yes they would if that’s what you offered them. Eventually they get hungry enough to eat anything. lol
I know how hard fighting weight gain is. I’m not going to foist that battle on my innocent child so early in life.
@Fox
Great points! It IS usually easier to eat unhealthy, but the effort it takes to eat good food is well worth it. I totally agree about it being wrong to feed kids junk. I think it’s a form of gross negligence.
Wow, I have something to add to this post over a year after its birth…hehe. My mom has been recently told by her ob/gyn to lose a few pounds. She is only maybe 20 lbs. overweight or so, and I think the doc was cautioning her to watch out now, before it becomes more difficult to manage. When she was telling me about it, her immediate reaction was defense, as well as saying that she wasn’t as bad as some people so why bring it up? I mentioned that I would love to go back in time and start working on weight management before I ever needed plus sizes. But to her mentality it should only be mentioned when it’s a real problem…I disagree, prevention is the best medicine. My breaking point was feeling, well, broken…and old. I was 24 when I started losing the weight. I’m 26 now and I feel better than I did at 20 (except for the back problems I still battle with)!
This comment made by this person is the biggest pile of shit in the world. First of all get it through your thick fucking skull “man made global warming does not exist” . Yes I know I am now a republican nut here now in your little mind right? Actually I am not I just have common sense. There is a ton of data backing up the idea that global warming doesn’t exist charts etc. etc. I promise to you on my life that in the next 50 years this won’t be a water world, there will be plenty of ice caps, and there won’t be any global warming this is just another fucking fluky pile of a shit to give the government an excuse to tax people more for carbon. Also Exxon mobile loves people who support global warming you want to know why? Scarcity is profit so after all if you are a fat piece of shit driving then you shouldn’t be driving anyway so I guess it’s okay if gas gets more expensive and I charge and tax you more i.e. it gives them an excuse to charge more so basically the very people you hate are making more money and are doing better then ever when you global warming nuts start yapping.
P.S. If you look at global charts ice caps in the north ARE melting but they are also forming in the south.

This is a super website, I absolutely aggree with all your statements. Fat people choose to be fat and possibly unhealthy. I weigh more than my scale can bear… I am a huge blob of lard over 350 lbs and still gaining. I have yet to find my breaking point… When I was not able to close the binding of my snowboard I bought a step in binding… now I just sold my board because snowboarding became very difficult for me since getting up is such a strain. I rather sit in the restaurant and eat a heart warming large meal and watch how my friends terrorize the slopes. I sold my car because it became to small and unsafe to drive. I got me a big E Class Benz which leaves enough space beween the steering weel and my humongous gut.
Don’t get me wrong I aggree with you fully but still I have not found my breaking point… will it be 400 lbs or maybe 500 lbs? I realized that I find ways to conserve energy. I am very carefull not to drop things because I hate to pick them up. I park my car as close to the entrance of shop as possible, I use the all the help I can get and sometimes i use the electric stroller offered by the grocery stores. When will I stop and when will it do that “click” in my brain? I do not know, at the moment I love my fat body, I love to attract peoples attention when I try to sit in a booth at Dennys or when I try to fit in these small chairs of these roller coasters at ceader point. I love to ask for a seat belt extention in the airplane and I love to get a second or a third helping. I constantly ignore all warnings from my doctor. I love to squeeze into thight close and I love to show my fat on the beach. I crave the expression of the peoples faces when I lay their on my beach chair and eat a dozent doughnuts and to wash it all down my gullet with a large 2 liter bottle of coke. I don’t know what drives me to do that… is it protest against people like you and agaist society in general? I do not know the proper answer to that question. Since 2 years I live with my current partner, she is a Fat Admirere and Feedee, both terms from a special intrest group. We are not gay, we are fat or love fat. She encourages me to eat beyond the feeling of beeing full. She helps me to conserve energy. She gives me very hard massages to split my fat cells faster in order to grow fatter fast. With her help I gained almost 50 lbs in 1 year. 50 lbs of pure fat that is. I am in a bad position since I start to depend on her help. If I go on a diet she will eventually leave my, if I obey I will make her very happy and I will propably die early. Nah, not me, all the others but I will grow to be 700 lbs and still live until I am 80… just kidding. No I know that my health is at risk but I still can not keep myself away from food. I am constantly on a sea food diet… I it all the food I can see. If you like it or not.
Put my blog on your list.
